Carla Sparks


Carla Sparks serves Hillsborough County Public Schools in Tampa, Florida as the Supervisor of Single Gender Programs. She is also working with her school district to launch a district-wide initiative to train teachers how to implement Gender Differentiated Instruction in co-gender schools and classes. Carla is an Adjunct Professor at National Louis University where she teaches students in the Masters of Education Program.

Carla is an alum at National Louis University where she earned a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and did her post-graduate work in Educational Leadership. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English at Roberts Wesleyan College. She taught elementary school, middle grades, and high school in Tampa. She taught all boys classes, all girls classes, and co-gender classes. She served as a program Lead Teacher, department chair, School Advisory Council chair, and site based director of a Preparing New Educators Support Program.

Some of her achievements and recognitions include earning certification as a Gurian Institute Trainer for Boys and Girls Learn Differently; becoming certified as a national trainer of Critical Friends Group; achieving National Board Certification in 2001 and again in 2010 as a renewal candidate.

She has been a trainer for Hillsborough County Public Schools since 2003 on various topics ranging from Teacher Induction Training to Classroom Action Research, Exhibition of Mastery and Critical Friends Group.

She has also presented workshops at local, state and national education conferences. Most currently, she is a district trainer on a variety of topics related to single gender education including Boys and Girls Learn Differently.
