Morgan Rutherford, 7th Grade Social Studies, The Lovett School, Atlanta, GA
Originally from Knoxville, Tennessee, Morgan earned her Bachelor’s in both Secondary Social Science Education and History from Auburn University. She culminated her coursework with an internship teaching 11th and 12th grade history at Opelika High School. After graduation, she moved back to Knoxville and accepted a position at Farragut High School.
Morgan enjoyed 4 years at Farragut teaching a range of history courses for 9th and 11th graders; including Ancient World History, Modern World History, and AP U.S. History and more. In 2015 she decided to move to Atlanta and accepted a position teaching Middle School at Lovett. She is now in her 5th year as a 7th grade Global Issues teacher. Morgan has held leadership roles as a 7th grade Team Leader, Design Team Leader (a focus group of teachers and administrators who use Design Thinking to come up with solutions for challenges in the Middle School) and lead professional development workshops on cross-curricular learning and Design Thinking. Outside of her roles in the Middle School, Morgan also coaches JV and Varsity Cheerleading during the fall and winter in the Upper School.
At the conclusion of the 2019-2020 school year, Morgan will be moving abroad to Cape Town, South Africa where she has accepted a position at the American International School of Cape Town as a Middle School Social Studies teacher.
