Michael Gurian has often been asked whether the new cultural interest in transgender and gender nonconforming brains should indicate an end to the idea that males and females have sex-specific brains. Are “males” and “females” a thing of the past? Should we stop talking about the importance of understanding how boys and girls learn differently because some of our human brains sit more in the middle of the brain spectrum than on binary sides?
This video clip is a short answer to these questions. It discusses the difference between sexes on the brain, which is robust worldwide and will never disappear, and the gender spectrum which does not negate sex difference. As Gurian notes, “We can help all children if we understand how to include all brains in the human conversation.” We hope you find this video clip useful in your own deliberations and experiences.
