The Gurian Institute was introduced to one of the co-founders of the BOND Project, Dr. Daryl Howard, three years ago as the Achievement Academic Excellence and Equity for Black Boys Initiative was founded in Maryland. Dr. Howard helped spearhead that Initiative along with Dr. Vermelle Greene, who will be speaking at our Summer Institute in June. An educator and trainer, Dr. Howard is also co-founder of the BOND Project.
BOND is holding its annual conference and we wanted to let you know about the conference and the organization. Here’s more from Dr. Howard and his colleagues.
In your K-12 experience, how many Black or Latino male teachers did you have?
This is the question that we often ask people across the country. The numbers from most people can typically be counted on one hand. The nationwide average is 1.3%. Many have never had one.
This is why the BOND Project started, and this award winning, student directed short video tells some of our early story.
These numbers are also why we started the BOND Academy, a professional development conference where we center the voices, experiences and expertise of male educators of color from across the country. If your experiences with Black or Latino male educators are limited and you want to see the value that they bring to teaching and learning, you need to attend this conference.
Where else can you receive three days of high quality professional learning in a new, state of the art building, with breakfast and lunch included, for that registration rate? The only answer is the BOND Academy. Don’t miss this pricing specifically offered to be educator friendly!
