Barry Shreiar: The Virtue Development Our Boys Need in School and Life
Army and Navy Academy (ANA), is a boys boarding school on the Pacific Ocean in Carlsbad, CA. As the school notes, “Army and Navy Academy’s approach toward boy brain science and virtue development sets young men up for success in school and life.” President of the school (and parent of a son who graduated from ANA), Barry has a close-up view of what works to help boys grow virtuously and learn effectively. Barry will discuss theory and strategies from the school’s 115 year history, including results of the learning laboratory the school creates for boys to explore self-developing in male-positive and male-supportive environment. Boys from the school go on to become virtuous leaders, scholars, and athletes. As Barry notes, “In a time where young men are encountering systemic difficulties in school and early life, the Academy sets graduates up for lifelong success.”
Barry Shreiar is a graduate of the University of California at Irvine where he earned a B.A., cum laude, and an M.A. in Philosophy. He went on to earn a J.D. from Southwestern University School of Law. Mr. Shreiar is a Managing Director and founding Member of Prism Advisers, LLC., a management advisory, consulting, and venture capital organization focusing on emerging growth businesses ($10MM to $250MM in sales). He is a former Managing Director and founding Member of Global Resource Services, LLC, a global protective intelligence consulting firm that specializes in educating and preparing corporate clients, civilians and federal, state, and local law enforcement in threat assessment and planning. He spent nine years with Coss, Shreiar, and Law, attorneys of Newport Beach, California, with a practice limited to merger and acquisition, corporate and real estate representation. The Shreiar family resides in Newport Beach. His son graduated from the Academy in 2014. Barry is currently President of Army and Navy Academy.
What Boys Need As Males from the Asian Perspective
In what we believe is a first for a conference of this kind, we have asked four boys from Asia, who are students at Army and Navy Academy, a boarding school for boys on the Pacific Ocean in Carlsbad, CA, to discuss what boys need from their perspectives both as young men and also young men born and raised in Asia. Please see the four students’ biographies and backgrounds on the Conference page.
Dr. Mark Ryan, Dean of Academics at Army and Navy Academy, will lead this panel, asking questions and engaging the young men in dialogue on key themes. This is not a pre-planned or rehearsed panel: We are hoping to elicit from the boys their authentic visions, sense of purpose, as well as their needs and hopes for their and our cultures raising boys into loving, wise and successful men.
The Conference is free, but you need to register to participate. Registration is easy. Please go to https://helpingboysthrive.org/what-boys-need-as-males-conference/. On that site you can learn more about the conference and register.
