We are in the midst of a COVID crisis that is affecting nearly everyone’s lives. Many schools are shutting their brick-and-mortar doors for the time being, and moving students online. In-person and on-site professional development is grinding to a stand still in many districts for fear of people gathering together in one room. Large and small conferences are also shuttered across the country. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this crisis.
Professional development, institutional growth in education, and personal growth need not end. In fact, as people self-quarantine, it can continue. The Gurian Institute is positioned to help schools and individuals in this crisis with online course opportunities. Your school’s professional development budgets can be used for each and all of our Courses. To learn more about our work, click www.gurianinstitute.com. Two of the Courses will show up immediately for you on the homepage.
Two of our courses especially fit your potential school or district wide PD days, remote PD, and certification.
*The Minds of Boys and Girls Educator Course, with Michael Gurian. This four hour video course includes two + more hours of written work and strategies you can engage in as a group or individually.
*The Minds of Boys and Girls Parent Course, with Michael Gurian. This six hour video course provides theory and strategies for parents, counselors, and mentors specifically, all of which are useful to educators.
We have a third, shorter video, Strategies for Teaching Boys and Girls with Dakota Hoyt, our Executive Director Emeritus. This 1.5 hour course provides further analysis and strategies, and should be used after the Minds of Boys and Girls Educator Course.
These courses are in video clips that can be utilized all in one day PD or divided into various PD chunks. Discounts for groups, both large and small, are available to you. Please write Gail at gail@gurianinstitute.com with the number of students you have and she will provide the discount for that number.
People who wish to certify as Gurian Certified Trainers can use these online courses for that certification (for more on that, see the Trainer page on www.gurianinstitute.com). COVID-directed at-home work and downtime might be a good time to pursue certification.
To learn more about all the courses, go to the Products link at the top of the www.gurianinstitute.com website, and click each drop down menu item there.
Our Courses Fit Your Funding Sources
Our online courses have been paid for in the past by nearly every kind of Title fund as well as other federal funds; state and municipal educational funds in the district; individual school budgets and grants; and individual budgets. You may have budgets and funds that need to be used, and brain-based online coursework is probably a fit for them. As you’ll see on the product pages for the two Minds of Boys and Girls courses, the courses fit the needs and protocols of federal, state, and local funding sources.
In the past, school or district leaders and coordinators have set up the courses for all the teachers in a school or district utilizing a group discount. On the webpages for each course, you’ll see success testimonials from previous leaders and participants in our work. You will also see testimonials throughout our website from individuals.
Via the Online Courses, then, you can have professional development days and times in your school. All of your staff can take the online course remotely on the PD day/time and connect via online modalities to discuss the content and deepen the best practices or, if the courses can be used by all of your teachers individually at various times via individual sign-up.
All of us at GI believe the COVID crisis will be tapering off well before our Summer Institute in June (June 12-14, 2020) at Army and Navy Academy in Carlsbad, CA (see www.gurianinstitute.com for more information on the SI), so we hope you will sign up for that event. Many things are still unknown, of course, so we are proud to be able to off you our Online Courses at any time of the year.
We hope you’ll contact us at GI for discussion around the best and easy use of these courses, and group discounts that exist, as well as Trainer Certification. Please contact Gail at gail@gurianinstitute.com or Michael at michaelgurian@comcast.net as you need us. We believe in the power of brain-based professional development! We are here to serve you and your schools, communities, and families.
