The Gurian Summer Training Institute begins this Friday evening with a warm welcome reception then Saturday morning with training and networking. There is still time to register on www.gurianinstitute.com or at the door.
The two-day Training Institute will be held at one of our Model Schools, the Army and Navy Academy, which is located right on the beach in Carlsbad, CA, at 2605 Carlsbad Blvd. Thank you, Army and Navy Academy!
There will be plenty of down time in the evenings for you to enjoy the beach and the sights. We encourage you to bring your families to Carlsbad for vacation time, if you can, as the location is very family friendly.
For those of you planning on becoming Gurian Certified Trainers, an extra session will provide you with specific certification training on Monday morning.

Our keynote speakers are Dr. Michael Gurian, New York Times Bestselling Author of Saving Our Sons and The Minds of Girls, and Mr. Troy Kemp, Executive Director of the National Center for the Development of Boys.
Michael will focus on both boys and girls in two presentations on Saturday morning. A dynamic, rich, and often humorous presenter, Michael will help us take a deep dive into the challenges both boys and girls face in our schools and communities today.
On Sunday morning, Troy will focus on strategies for motivating all students to excel, with a special emphasis on teaching, counseling, and coaching difficult-to-motivate students, and engaging boys of color in particular. Troy will also provide a Sunday workshop on helping children make the high school to college transition.

Katey McPherson, Gurian Master Trainer and local leader in an Arizona grass roots movement to get Suicide Prevention and Social-Emotional Learning into all school curricula, will provide our two Boys and Girls Learn Differently Strategies sessions.
Dr. Glynetta Deshon Fletcher, a Gurian Certified Trainer and Assistant Principal in the LA Unified School District, will focus her two workshop sessions on helping children thrive through adult trauma-response and student-focused conflict resolution skills.
Dr. Lisa Basista, from Cal State San Marcos, a Gurian Master Trainer, will provide a session on Helping Girls Thrive that deals with girl’s hyper-social anxiety and girl drama.
Tim Wright, with whom Michael Gurian has built rites of passage programs, will provide sessions on how to provide rites of passage programs in your community, and how to help boys face the challenges of contemporary culture.
Amy Coe and Ethan Segovia, the Assistant Dean and Dean of Admissions at Army and Navy Academy respectively, both Gurian Certified Trainers, will provide workshop sessions on Nature, Nurture, and Culture and Digital Citizenship.
This year we are opening sessions to teens, and we will hear from teens at the beginning of our first Saturday session. We already have a few teens registered and would like to explore this aspect of our work further.
As always, all our sessions blend brain research with applications to school, family, organizational, and social settings.
Group discounts are available. Learn more and register through www.gurianinstitute.com. Or come to the door, Duffield Gym, on Saturday morning, and register there.
We hope to see you in Carlsbad!
