Our deepest thanks to everyone who attended and helped organize our Winter Training Institute! It took place this last weekend at the Lovett Middle School in Atlanta, GA, a Gurian Model School. As these photos will show, there was excitement, inspiration, team work, networking, and a love of learning that pervaded the whole event. On https://gurianinstitute.com/events/gurian-winter-institute-2020/, you can see the keynotes, workshops, and other sessions that made up the learning portion of the Training.
We want to give special thanks to the Lovett School, especially Lovett Middle School Principal Debbie Franks, teachers and administrators Mary Olszewski, Morgan Rutherford, Joseph Moody, Stacia McFadden, and the rest of the Lovett organizational team, as well as Eva Dwight, our Gurian Institute Conference Director, and all of the tech, maintenance and support staff. We hope you will visit the Lovett School when you are in the Atlanta area to see all that the school is doing for kids.
If you can believe it, we are also, already, planning our next Training Institute. It will be our Summer Institute at Army and Navy Academy, a Gurian Model School, in Carlsbad, CA, on the weekend of June 13-14, 2020. This will be our 20th Summer Training Institute and our 6th year at Army and Navy Academy. Come join us on the beach in California! To learn more, click the Events page of www.gurianinstitute.com.
Here are comments we received at our Winter Institute, and photos follow.
“The sessions were diverse and the presenters kept us focused not only on scientific theory but especially on Strategies! This was so important, so powerful for me.”
“I thoroughly enjoyed these two days and learned so much about how to help my students, especially my girls in the areas of girl drama and STEM and my boys in areas of social-emotional development and motivation to learn.”
“Boys are a particular challenge in my classrooms, and this weekend training was right on point. This is one of the best professional development experiences I have ever had.”
“I am becoming a Gurian Certified Trainer so that I can keep bringing this information to my school and our parent body. This weekend prepared me very well to keep the work going!”
“Michael Gurian’s keynote and lunch sessions were profound. I am so appreciative of what he and the whole Gurian Institute are doing in communities and schools.”
“I came as a parent first and mental health counselor second, but I ended up learning a lot in both categories. I now believe this Gurian theory and strategies can change our counseling systems for the better, and I have a lot to take home with me.”
“Troy Kemp’s energy and inspiration are unstoppable. Thank you, Troy, for showing me the way!”
“Eva Dwight is such a dynamic speaker. I went to all her sessions and they were great!”
“Dr. Barnes and Dr. Greene practice what they preach! I was so glad to get their wisdom, especially in the area I work in most, helping and teaching children of color.”
“All the speakers from Lovett gave us wonderful information and did not fall back on stereotypes or easy solutions. Thank you for this great weekend!”
“The team from Cherokee Creek Boys School gave me so much to think about and so many practical tools. Thank you!
“In thirty two years as a teacher and coach, I have rarely gone to PD that did not bore me at some point. This Gurian work is not boring. I am very glad I came.”
