Diedra Barnett

Ms. Diedra Barnett was named the Vice Principal at J.P. Ryon Elementary School in 2018. Prior to J.P. Ryon, she was the Reading Resource Teacher at Gale-Bailey Elementary School in Marbury, MD, where she has served since 2014. She has employed her expertise as a Reading Specialist within the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) since 2005. Her assignments within the CCPS include Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Elementary School (2008-2014) and Dr. Gustavus Brown Elementary School (2005-2008); serving as the Reading Resource Teacher at both of these schools. Prior to joining the CCPS team, Ms. Barnett served her educational constituents in the Prince George’s County Public Schools – MD (2001-2005), Houston County Public School – GA (2000-2001), Department of Defense Schools – NJ, GA & Turkey (1995-2000) and Marlboro County Public Schools – SC (1994-1995). Ms. Barnett also served as a Lead Teacher with the Children’s Defense Fund in Bennettsville, SC during 1994-1995.

Ms. Barnett’s accomplishments include serving as a Master Teacher and Curriculum Writer for the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Ms. Barnett is a Dyslexia Therapist for Wilson Reading Systems. She is also a certified trainer for Restorative Practices, online facilitator for MSDE, an Implicit Bias Facilitator as well as a Move This World Ambassador.

Ms. Barnett is a native of Bennettsville, South Carolina and completed her undergraduate work at the University of South Carolina. She also holds a Master of Science degree in Curriculum and Instruction (with Administrator I Certification) from McDaniel College.
