Each year after our Summer Training Institute, we receive positive comments about the great job our Master Trainers do leading the Boys and Girls Learn Differently workshops, and people will say, “We’d also like to hear more from Dr. Michael Gurian on the strategies.” This year, we are providing the best of both worlds.
We hope you’ll register now for the GI Summer Training Institute. It is virtual and available not just on the days-of but for weeks afterward. Please see https://gurianinstitute.com/events/gurian-summer-institute-2026/. Now here’s more about the Strategies/Solutions sessions in which you can participate.
In these sessions, both on Saturday, June 27, 2026 and Sunday June 28, 2026 we will be doing something we haven’t done in more than a decade. We will feature:
*Dr. Michael Gurian live for the Strategies sessions on Zoom. He will present multiple strategies across the age spans from pre-school use through elementary/primary, middle school, and high school.
*GI Consulting Director and Master Trainer Diane Roberts in her pre-recorded Strategies sessions (See her blog post earlier this year on how she inculcated the Strategies in her school when she was principal)
*Master Trainers, Trainers, and teachers at Army and Navy Academy, a Gurian Center for Educational Excellence, including video clips of their use of the strategies in their school setting.
Dr. Gurian will also utilize video clips of innovations from teachers and GI Certified Trainers at Gurian Model Schools and others who inculcated the theory and strategies in their classrooms and culture with powerful results.
Thirty years ago, in the two year Pilot in six school districts in Missouri, facilitated by Dr. Gurian and Dr. Patricia Henley at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Education, the Gurian strategies were explored in a research setting. Teachers, counselors, and school staff utilized and transformed the theory and strategies with success reported in Boys and Girls Learn Differently (Jossey-Bass/John Wiley, 2001, 2011).
Since then, as other schools utilize them, schools such as Army and Navy Academy, a boys’ boarding school in Carlsbad, CA, and Crespi Carmelite High School, a Gurian Center for Excellence in Encino, CA, we see how the theory and strategies address the boy crisis in education head on. Without the boys and girls learn differently theory and strategies in use, many schools lose many boys. Traditional education needs the strategies to transform itself into a boy-friendly environment. Fortunately, the strategies in use only help girls learn as well.
When classrooms and school cultures don’t understand how boys and girls learn differently and don’t use the strategies in classrooms, counseling, and culture, issues like the boy crisis gradually emerge.
