For 25 years, the Gurian Institute has been training educators and other professionals to innovate in their communities via trainer and teacher training, online courses, conference keynotes and workshops, educational consulting, and curriculum development. All these programs have, in a sense, built up to our new Train-the Trainer Membership program.
Michael Gurian, who will be leading this project, writes, “I believe this program can spread the message and the tools into every possible school, organization, and community; I believe in it so strongly I will be participating in it by curating it for our new Trainers.” On our website, www.gurianinstitute.com/success, you can see how effective are schools and communities that embed Gurian Institute work into their systems.
From Michael Gurian:
Based on success data acquired over a multi-decade period (www.gurianinstitute.com/success) we began certifying trainers in the 1990s, with hundreds of people like you certifying over the decades, then we announced our new Trainer in Every School Initiative in 2019. The goal of this Initiative is to help every school position a GI Certified Trainer on staff who can train teams in our successful whole child pedagogy. We work, as you may know, with the whole sex and gender spectrum, and provide science-based, research-driven, and strategies-oriented social change.
Even this 2019 Initiative, however, lacked a full-support component. Our Trainers got trained but did not receive the kind of full-year support we have been looking at providing for years now. Our new pilot program for New Trainers follows from past successes to add full yearlong support. Now, teachers, trainers, and others from various walks of life can become Trainers and once a Trainer experience full support in embedding best practices into schools, environments, and institutions.
Whether you work in a K – 12 school, early childhood environment, faith community, non-profit organization, counseling agency, corporate structure, neighborhood, and/or family, you will find ongoing assistance in using theory and tools throughout your school, district, organization, and locality. You will be poised to help make the systemic changes in your environment that you have sensed need to be made. Looking at schools for a moment: if you are in a school, one Trainer might be able to help embed GI success there, depending on the size of your school; for whole school districts, however, a cohort of Trainers is advisable.
Specifically, GI Trainers in this Membership Program will receive:
- Twelve hours of initial Train-the-Trainers via Zoom on these Mondays at 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Pacific time:
January 30, 2023, training with Dr. Michael Gurian, on Protecting the Minds of Boys and Girls, and Gender-Specific, Trauma-Informed Resilience-Development in Children.
February 6, 2023, training with Eva Dwight, M.Ed., GI Program Director, on Boys and Girls Learn Differently and Strategies for Educating Boys and Girls.
February 13, 2023, training with Dr. Glynetta Fletcher, Cultural Literacy, Equity, and Helping Boys and Girls of Color.
February 27, 2023, training with Eva Dwight, M.Ed., final Trainer Certification Session with Modeling and Initial Materials.
If you or one of your Trainers is not available at the designated training time, videos will be available so that no one misses anything.
2. Upon completion of the four training sessions, Trainers will receive protected access to the Certified Trainer portal in which materials are already loaded, organized, and curated for immediate use.
3. The Trainers will then receive new materials at strategic intervals that I will personally curate. These include PPT slides, video clips, podcasts, handouts, targeted articles and blogs, strategies tools, and more. These help you and the Trainers to learn new skills, improve teaching and coaching, and embed GI Training, administrative work, and parent coaching into an institution and community.
4. During the year, there will be additional professional development sessions taught by GI Master Trainers. Best dates will be decided by surveying the new Trainers and connecting schedules with the instructor’s schedules.
5. Again, very importantly, if a Trainer misses any session during the year, the session will be recorded so that no Trainer needs to miss any PD offering.
6. Three (3) group coaching sessions and one (1) one-on-one coaching session during the year with me or GI Master Trainers such Dr. Fletcher and Ms. Dwight.
7. Community Collaboration. This Certification and Membership includes a community collaboration element through which you will be able to interact with and learn from one another on a regular basis online.
Cost for the new Trainer and Membership program is just $3,000.00 for the whole year. The initial and then embedded trainings themselves would normally cost more in any organization, but we want to pilot this new program in a way that is cost effective for you and your teams. At the end of the year, the Membership is renewable if the Trainer wishes, for even less cost. During the year, if you change schools or environments, your membership may continue with you.

This pilot has limited access. I don’t know if we will be able to offer everything here for this low cost again, so please consider joining our pilot now! If you do, you will receive more than 1.5 years of certification for the price of a year: your membership will begin now but automatically renew in June 2023 for a year and will be renewable from June 2024 onward.
