Tucker Carlson debuted a new series, “Men in America,” on his Fox News program to run all through March with the words, “American men are in crisis.” Mr. Carlson noted: “This is a crisis, yet our leaders pretend it’s not happening, but ignoring the decline of men does not help anyone. Men and women need each other. One cannot exist without the other. That is elemental biology, but it’s also the reality each one of us has lived, with our parents and siblings and friends. When men fail, all of us suffer.”
Carlson goes on to cite statistics that have reached epidemic proportions in our nation.
Men are:
*More than twice as likely to become alcoholics than women.
*Twice as likely to die from a drug overdose.
*77% of all suicides in America are committed by males.
*America has the highest rate of male incarceration per capita of any country in the world.
*Boys are twice as likely as girls to be diagnosed emotionally disturbed and twice as likely to experience a behavioral or learning disorder.
*In our nation’s schools, boys are behind girls in nearly every educational marker, including grades, test scores, and college attendance and matriculation.
Over a period of decades, the destitution of millions of boys and men has been growing. For twenty of those years, the Gurian Institute has called attention to the needs of both boys and girls and developed solutions to core issues facing each population.
In The Minds of Boys: Saving Our Sons from Falling Behind in School and Life, Michael Gurian asks, “Is part of this crisis we face with boys and school rooted in our giving away too much when we gave our children’s minds to institutions?” Gurian is wondering if the people closest to our children—parents, teachers, caregivers, and mentors—have inadvertently lost some authority over children’s lives, giving it to large institutions and media. Gurian goes on to ask, “Is it possible to begin fixing this crisis in male development by taking back some of the responsibility we once had for our sons?”
We think the answer is YES. Those of us who are most bonded with children, both at home and in school, hold the daily and inspired key to helping boys and girls thrive. It is we who will, in the case of boys and men, save our sons.
Carlson echoes this idea in his series by noting that America can solve the crisis in male development, if we will focus on it, and apply solutions across the board, one community at a time.
The cultural moment has come. It’s time we shift the paradigm. It’s time to learn how to best support those who need us most.
It takes a village. We’d love you to join ours. Together we will make a difference.

Tucker Carlson did indeed do an outstsanding job of laying-out just how much of a crisis men are in and how appallingly pervasive the misinformation is on the subject. It is important to note that Tucker intends to pursue this subject on upcoming Wednesdays. In my opinion, Fox may be weak in many ways but Tucker Carlson is emphatically not one of them.
