Michael Gurian here.  I am writing about a change to our Summer Institute 2022.  It will now take place solely on Zoom.   All registrants will also have two weeks to watch and re-watch everything, so even if you can’t make it to the SI on Zoom on either June 25 or June 26, you can view everything through July 10.

We have an amazing group of speakers with information and strategies that will empower and support you individually, and positively affect your school culture collectively.  Everywhere we provide services right now, we work on resilience building, child and teacher mental health, trauma-informed education, and boys and girls learn differently combined.  The need for support of teachers and communities is huge right now, as you know.  We want to give it to you passionately and effectively.

Covid is one reason–some organizations and individuals have contacted us to say that people don’t want to cross country and register for an in person event.  We have found many people in Arizona and in Phoenix telling us they prefer Zoom to in person, as well, which surprised us, but we understand this concern.   We have done our Summer Institute and other events via Zoom for two years with great reviews so we are comfortable switching to Zoom.

Also, for a couple months now, we’ve been talking to many of you about inflation in airline and hotel expenses.  I’ve seen it too from speaking across the country this last number of months.  Inflation is hitting budgets.  We want everyone to be able to come to our SI; the more people engaged in the work, the more positive growth and systemic change will happen in schools and communities.  If we move the event to Zoom, we believe, your schools and budgets won’t have to pay for the large expenses for travel and hotel that seem to be growing everywhere everyday.  We hope this allows you to send more people to the event virtually.

For those of you who would like to become Gurian Certified Trainers, let us know.  That extra training will take place on zoom from 8:00 – 12:00 pacific time on Monday, June 27.  If you cannot participate at that time on Monday, we can arrange another time for you to access that extra training.
