Because of you, our Summer Institute (SI) was, and still is on video, a resounding success, with more than 500 participants! Though the June 25 – 26 weekend is complete, our participants have until July 10 to watch the videos of workshops they missed over the weekend, and re-watch keynotes and workshops that inspired them. A number of schools brought large groups to the SI, and we are grateful. Systemic change is always a primary goal of our work.
We are also honored to have Head Start of Phoenix utilize our Summer Institute in its own training for teachers and staff, who will use our videos as foundation for a Head Start Training in Phoenix that Michael Gurian and Eva Dwight will provide in mid-July in Phoenix.
Another innovation this year came to us from Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, LA. CHS is hosting a two day event in which the videos from the Gurian Summer Institute are being shown there discussed in groups led by the CHS team. This SI satellite event is happening June 29 – 30. We look forward to debriefing with CHS to celebrate this innovative approach and learn more about how it worked.
If you did not participate in the Summer Institute this year, we hope you will join us next year. To see what we did at the Summer Institute, check out the website for the SI here: https://gurianinstitute.com/events/gurian-summer-institute-2022/.

Here are some comments from Institute participants:
“This was so practical and useful! I wish our school district would provide your training for all teachers.”
“This year’s extra emphasis on child mental health was so useful to our team. With teacher shortages and children’s behavioral issues everywhere, we welcome the brain-based analysis and the practical tools.”
“Packed with content. Engaging speakers. Important information. Without a doubt one of the best professional development experiences our school has engaged in!”
“When Michael wrote us that you decided to go to Zoom again this year so we could bring large groups in our schools and communities, I was suspicious. But it worked. We were able to bring a large group from our school, and this will lead to systemic change discussions among us.”
“I have come to the Gurian Summer Institute many years, and learn so many new things each time!”
“Your science-based and research-based approach fits very well with what we want at our school. I have never heard sex and gender discussions like this before, but the Gurian approach distinguishing sex and gender, and inclusively taking in everyone, makes the best sense.”
“I became a Trainer this year. Very excited to bring this back to my kiddos, my school, and the parents!”
“My principal encouraged me to join this PD and being someone who has done PD for more than twenty five years, I was skeptical, but this is the best PD I’ve had in at least a decade.”
“I know of no organization in the U.S. that is quite doing what you’re doing: bringing together teacher, parent, and school support, sex and gender, trauma-informed education, racial equity, and child mental health in an integrated vision that we can use practically and strategically. Please keep doing it!”
