This is Thanksgiving week in the United States, a time to experience gratitude for what has been and what will be. The Gurian Institute thanks you for all your support over the years and we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving wherever you are.
From his Story of a Man collection, today’s blog post is Michael Gurian’s “Gratitude.”
(I am Jewish and so I use the word, “God,” but if that is not the word you use for what is larger, please substitute Higher Power or other word – Michael Gurian).
Gratitude
There are moments of communion every day
when my eyes see as if with God’s eyes,
and my voice talks insightfully or like a song
as if it is I, God’s instrument, who creates
time’s invisible permanence from the void.
In these pure moments, should I feel I am
a conqueror-king crowned at his destination?
Should this king finally live without worry?
In these moments, I feel only a deep gratitude.
Could this be what God has been feeling all along?

Dear Michael,
I came across several letters your parents sent to me in the latter part of the 1980s. Interesting bits of personal/US history. That led me to google wondering what had happened to Jack and Judy/Julia. I was their Chiropractor in Denver. I watched one of your lectures
and learned about male and female brains. That was fascinating, thank you. My male brain made it through without difficulty!

Hi Ken,
Thank you for your note. I’m so glad you enjoyed the talk.
Can you scan the letters from my folks to michaelgurian@comcast.net? Or could you send them to me (or send copies of them)?
Blessings to you,
Mike
