Some of you have written and called about rumors that school may not start this Fall, at least not in some brick-and-mortar locations, but instead may transpire online, as it did this spring. Others have written that Summer and Back-to-School PD will need to transpire online and virtually, as well. If this happens in your school or district, please let us know. We provide PD via Zoom, webinar, and other online modalities. Our PD is structured in virtual time/space to provide virtual keynotes, 1/2 or 1 day PD, and multi-day and year long PD and consulting.
Don’t let the thought of having to rearrange Summer PD paralyze you or your community. The Gurian Institute has done this before and can help you immediately. Call us at 509 624 0623 and/or email Gail at gail@gurianinstitute.com. Let us know who you are, what your PD and other needs are, and we will get together with you to customize an online and virtual offering for your school or district.

- Book Studies of Saving Our Sons, The Minds of Girls, and/or our Boys and Girls Learn Differently Resource Guide are also a great interim idea as your teachers are looking for PD and professional learning. To learn more about these books, check out www.michaelgurian.com or www.amazon.com; to order Michael’s books in a bulk educator discount, please write gail@gurianinstitute.com.
Here now are more details on some of these “Remote” options.
Michael Gurian, Gurian Master Trainers, and Gurian Certified Trainers — PD via Zoom and other similar modalities.
Dr. Gurian, Eva Dwight, and our other Master and Certified Trainers can provide PD via Zoom, webinar, and other similar online and virtual modalities. All of the courses listed on our www.gurianinstitute.com Programs page can be provided virtually, e.g. The Minds of Boys and Girls, Helping Boys Thrive, Boys and Girls Learn Differently, The Minds of Girls, The Digital Brain, Trauma-Informed and Trauma-Affected Teaching, and much more. To begin a conversation about bringing us “virtually” to your PD days, parent keynotes, and school training needs, please write gail@gurianinstitute.com. We will reach out to you to discuss how to customize what you need to fit your school and community. You can also telephone us at 509 624 0623 to leave a message.
Because there are no travel and similar costs for virtual- and tele-PD, this approach can save your school money in budget-restricted times. Our PD fits your funding options, from Title funds to state or philanthropic grants, to state or local sources. Online Courses
Photos of two of our Online Courses show up immediately when you go to our www.gurianinstitute.com homepage. These courses can fit your school or district wide PD days, your remote PD needs, and trainer certification for yourself and/or members of your staff.
*The Minds of Boys and Girls Educator Course, with Michael Gurian. This four hour video course includes two + more hours of written work and strategies you can engage in as a group or individually (four – eight hours total of PD, depending on how you use the course).
*The Minds of Boys and Girls Parent Course, with Michael Gurian. This six hour video course provides theory and strategies for parents, counselors, and mentors; though there is some repeated material in the Educator course, this parent course is also being used by educators as it is longer and thus provides even more strategies and tools.
A third, shorter video course, Strategies for Teaching Boys and Girls with Dakota Hoyt, our Executive Director Emeritus: this 1.5 hour course provides further analysis and strategies, and should be used after the Minds of Boys and Girls Educator Course. With online discussion, it adds another two hours of PD.
These online courses are structured in video clips that can be utilized in one day or multi-day PD formats or divided into various shorter PD chunks. Discounts for groups, both large and small, are available. Please write Gail at gail@gurianinstitute.com with the number of participants/learners you want to serve with the course. She will provide the discount for that number. For large groups, Michael will provide a free Q @ A via Zoom or Skype after your teachers have taken the course(s).
To learn more about all the courses and to register your staff, please go to the Products link at the top of the www.gurianinstitute.com website. Click each drop down menu item there, e.g. https://gurianinstitute.com/products/boys-and-girls-learn-differently-online-course/. For group PD via the Courses, registration occurs by writing gail@gurianinstitute.com with your number of participants and when you would like to deploy the course.
If you are a PD director or administrator and are worried that you would not know how to manage or offer our online courses to your staff, please write us for a quick coaching session or to ask one of our Master or Certified Trainers to run the course and groups for you. Schools around the world have used our online courses as one-day, multi-day, and yearlong PD. We can show you how to do this in your school and in your preferred format, and/or we can help you remotely to fulfill the courses during the time-frame best for your school or team.
Trainer Certification
People who wish to certify as Gurian Certified Trainers can use either or both of these to certify: our Summer Training Institute in June, or the Online Courses. For more on becoming a Gurian Certified Trainer, please click: https://gurianinstitute.com/trainers/. This next few months might be a really good time to get your Trainer training and certification. Once you become a Certified Trainer, you can provide training in your school using our intellectual property and materials.
Gurian Summer Training Institute – A Tele-Summit in June
This year, our Summer Training Institute will be a virtual summit beginning over the weekend of June 27-28, with each session also available online to paid participants for a set period of time after the weekend. Please visit https://gurianinstitute.com/events/gurian-summer-institute-2020/ to learn more and to register.
Because of the new low cost for the Summer Training (i.e. our discounted prices and no costs for travel or other logistics) we hope you’ll register as many people and groups as possible. If onsite group quarantines are lifted by the time of the Summer Training, you could gather together with your registered colleagues to participate in the event in your school building, or you and your colleagues can access the event in separate locations even then, if you wish. Either way, this year, our Summer Training Institute can be used by even larger numbers of people than before because it is virtual and online.
Our Courses, Training, and Services Fit Your Funding Sources
Over the decades, our services including those online have been paid for by nearly every kind of Title fund, as well as other federal funds; state and municipal educational funds in the district; individual school budgets and grants; donor and philanthropic funding; and individual budgets. Your school, district, or organization may have budgets and funds that need to be used by a certain date, and our brain-based online/virtual coursework could well fit for that use. The language on the Product pages for the two Minds of Boys and Girls courses and our Summer Training Institute page displays how our work fits the needs and protocols of federal, state, and local funding sources.
We hope you’ll contact us at GI for discussion around the best and easy use of our online and virtual assets. Please contact Gail at gail@gurianinstitute.com, Michael at michaelgurian@comcast.net, or Eva@gurianinstitute.com as you need us.
We believe in the power of brain-based professional development and are here to serve you, your schools, your communities, and your families.
